Remember?
Shirley was born at the Miss Queen of Aces Pageant in 2011. Colorado Gay Volleyball Association held this campy fundraiser annually. My talent was re-enacting Steel Magnolias using barbie dolls. (Watch the video below.) I wanted a name that suited a strong southern woman. I thought about Delta... Delta Burke, Delta Work, Mississippi Delta. I always love puns and plays on words. So Delta Card, Delta Hand, Delta Nace, Delta Joker came to mind. Delta is also the greek letter representing change in math and science. I thought that was a cool place to start. We landed on Delta Blow. Maybe this woman had a rough go at life. To make her southern we gave her three names. As in she's been surely dealt a blow. And that is how Shirley Delta Blow got her name. It's that simple. Nothing to do with drugs or sex. Just a delightful woman whom life has tried to get the best of and she keeps a smile on her face and a little pep in her step.
Shirley in the News
I just watched a cool episode of I Am MOre Than on PBS12. Here's the link to watch my story.
Shirley is number sweet 16 on the list of 100 Colorado Creatives. Pretty cool, if you ask me.
With all the hubbub about Drag Queen Story Time, Shirley has something to say.
